Timeless Piece - Idea Development - First Tutorial
After meeting with our tutor he helped us hone in on the direction of our product, suggesting that instead of recruiting actors to demonstrate our piece, we may instead take part in the action. He pointed us towards artists' work such as Mark Wallinger and Jeremy Deller.
The work of Jeremy Deller was pointed out to us as something that we might be able to take inspiration from as we are looking to create a piece representative of multiple points in time. He has an artwork that was staged across the U.K entitled 'We'r here because we'r here'.
He took interest in the influence we had taken from the Kanye West video and showed us the video from The Prodigy 'smack my bitch up' which was trailblazing at the time (1997) and received MTV awards for best music video direction and best music video editing. We found that the video was still powerful despite it being now slightly dated, the way the video is filmed in first person allows the viewer to become more immersed in the product as apposed to being a voyeur they connect with the character's reality. I also felt the end of the video was clever in unveiling the twist
